The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014) has reached its mid-point. A mid-Decade review was conducted to take stock of what has been accomplished during the first five years of the DESD.

We, the participants gathered at the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development held in Bonn, Germany on 31 March to 2 April 2009 issue the following statement and call for action:

At the 2007 event titled “Why Sustainability Education”,participants from post-secondary, K-12 and other public sector organizations developed the 10 Principles of Sustainability Education. These principles provided a guide for educators and learners on what sustainability education should look like in practice.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2009 about 30 members of the Manitoba Education for Sustainable Development Working Group (MESDWG) participated in a full-day planning workshop at the Southwood Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg. The meeting was designed to accomplish three desired outcomes:
