1.  IWMC E-Waste Program

An e-waste program is currently under development with details to be announced by summer of 2010.  Customers are encouraged to store electronic wastes in their homes and/or businesses until more information is available

on the e-waste program.

Additionally, starting on March 1st, customers may place metals directly into their blue bags for monthly collections.  Larger metal items may be placed directly at the curb providing they do not exceed 4 feet in length or 50 lbs. in weight.

Metal week of Spring / Fall Cleanup will be eliminated and instead householders will be provided two compost and one waste week collections.

For more information on Waste Watch, please contact IWMC's Customer Service

Center at 1-888-280-8111 or by e-mail at info@iwmc.pe.ca

2. PEI Forest Council Outreach program

The Public Forest Council is undertaking an outreach program this winter to reach Island groups and organizations that are interested in the Island’s 33,000 hectares of public lands. Council members are interested in exploring the history of public lands, helping Islanders to understand the ways public lands are currently managed and used, examining the products/resources/opportunities available from public lands, developing an understanding of the issues facing our public lands, and engaging and involving the public in the conservation and management of this public resource. Interested groups can contact the Public Forest Council at PUBLICFOREST@gov.pe.ca or call 902 368 6450.

The PEI Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in conjunction with the Atlantic Canadian Association of Science Educators (ACASE) are hosting the annual ACASE conference here in Charlottetown under the theme Education for Sustainable Development.  The conference is aimed at educators from across Atlantic Canada and as a result will provide us with an opportunity to showcase PEI.  We are currently searching for formal speakers (30, 60, or 75 min), interactive presentations, hands on workshops, and interactive facility tours.  The conference will be taking place within the first two weeks of July with more details to follow on the ACASE website:
